About

The Vietnam Chapter supports the emerging community of CMT Association members and candidates in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic economies. The chapter provides a local connection point for professionals to learn, network, and grow as they apply technical analysis in a frontier market. The first CMT charter was awarded in Vietnam on August 7, 2014. The chapter was established as part of a volunteer-led grassroots effort to expand our Association’s presence across the Asia-Pacific region, bringing the global standards and community of CMT Association to new and promising markets.

Mission

The Vietnam Chapter is dedicated to building a strong professional foundation for technical analysis practitioners and to officially introduce the Chartered Market Technician® (CMT) Program as the recognized national standard for the discipline. Our mission is to accelerate the professionalization of market analysis within Vietnam’s dynamic and emerging markets. We provide essential educational resources, mentorship, and a vital community support network necessary for members to develop their skills, connect with industry leaders, and advance their careers. We value growth, education, and professional ethics. By promoting a disciplined, rules-based approach to market behavior and advocating for the CMT credential, the chapter ensures its members are the most skilled, respected, and successful financial professionals in Vietnam.

Understanding Groups and Gigs

What is a Group?

A Group is an ongoing, strategic body of volunteers who collaborate on a defined mission over an extended period. Groups have formal governance, defined membership, and regular meeting cadences. Joining a group means becoming part of a team committed to driving long-term impact within CMT.

What is a Gig?

A Gig is a short-term, tactical assignment with a clear deliverable and timeline. Gigs are ideal for volunteers who want to contribute their expertise to a specific task without a long-term commitment. They are time-boxed and goal-oriented.

What You'll Do Core Activities

Engage members and partners outside city Communities through national communications, virtual touchpoints, and cross-city initiatives.

Host annual or flagship Chapter summits and thematic inclusion campaigns that bring multiple Communities together.

Meet regularly with national regulators and financial media outlets to promote recognition of technical analysis and the CMT Program.

Coordinate and support Community leaders, including scheduling leadership calls, sharing programming templates, and tracking basic governance and reporting.

Hire and onboard Chapter-level volunteers and conduct regular Chapter volunteer meetings to review progress and plan upcoming programs.

Time Commitment
Recommended Time Commitment & Cadence
Chapter leaders should expect a commitment of 6–12 hours per month. This includes approximately 1–2 hours for the formal monthly meeting, with the remaining time dedicated to stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and overseeing city-level Communities. Time commitments may spike to 15+ hours during national seminars or major regional event months.
Chapters are required to hold formal leadership meetings at least four times per fiscal year (quarterly). While quarterly is the minimum, most active chapters convene monthly or every 6–8 weeks to coordinate regional programming, advocacy initiatives, and community support.
Member Appointment & Term
BYLAWS §8.02(E): The members of the committee shall be appointed by the committee chair with the approval of the Board to serve for a term of one (1) year or such longer period as the Board may determine, provided that no individual shall serve as a member of a committee (including anytime as committee chair) for more than four (4) consecutive years.
