Academia Outreach Committee

About

The Academia Outreach Committee is dedicated to establishing technical analysis as a respected academic discipline within colleges and universities worldwide. This committee builds relationships with faculty and students to integrate the CMT curriculum into finance programs and create a pathway for the next generation of practitioners. While fundamental analysis has long been a staple of university finance programs, technical analysis was often overlooked. The Academic Partner Program (APP) was established in 2015 to change that. 64Today, the program includes 58 universities, and this committee’s work is critical to dispelling myths and ensuring students are exposed to the full spectrum of market analysis.

Mission

The Academia Outreach Committee is driven by the mission to elevate technical analysis as a respected and integrated scholarly discipline within colleges and universities worldwide. We operate through the Academic Partner Program, actively building strong, collaborative relationships with faculty and students to integrate the CMT curriculum into mainstream finance degree programs. Our purpose is to bridge the historical gap between academic theory and practical market application, ensuring that the next generation of financial professionals is equipped with the vital skills of technical analysis. We value education, partnership, and thought leadership. By creating clear, accessible pathways, we inspire students to pursue the CMT designation, expand the body of technical knowledge in a scholarly environment, and cultivate the practitioners who will shape the future of the industry.

Understanding Groups and Gigs

What is a Group?

A Group is an ongoing, strategic body of volunteers who collaborate on a defined mission over an extended period. Groups have formal governance, defined membership, and regular meeting cadences. Joining a group means becoming part of a team committed to driving long-term impact within CMT.

What is a Gig?

A Gig is a short-term, tactical assignment with a clear deliverable and timeline. Gigs are ideal for volunteers who want to contribute their expertise to a specific task without a long-term commitment. They are time-boxed and goal-oriented.
