Board of Directors

About

The Board of Directors is the primary governing body of CMT Association, composed of elected leaders who provide strategic oversight and ensure the organization’s long-term health and success. Directors are experienced professionals who volunteer their time to guide our Association, upholding its mission and serving the global membership. The tradition of a volunteer-led Board dates back to the Association’s founding. The first President, Robert J. Farrell, was nominated in 1971 by the original charter members to lead the new organization. From its earliest days, the Board’s focus has been on establishing professional standards, creating educational opportunities, and building a respected, global community for technical analysts.

Mission

The paramount mission of the Board of Directors is to serve as the ultimate stewards of the CMT Association, guiding its long-term health, reputation, and success for our global membership. We achieve this by setting the visionary strategic direction, diligently approving the annual budget and operational plan, and rigorously monitoring performance to ensure every action aligns with our core values of integrity and excellence. Our primary commitment is to uphold the fiduciary duty entrusted to us, ensuring responsible management of all organizational resources and maintaining a robust risk management framework. By acting as the highest governing authority, we ensure transparency and accountability, protecting the prestige of the CMT designation and consistently advancing the global discipline of technical analysis for the benefit of all practitioners. We are dedicated to fostering a culture of leadership and ethical conduct that promotes the enduring relevance and growth of our profession worldwide.

Understanding Groups and Gigs

What is a Group?

A Group is an ongoing, strategic body of volunteers who collaborate on a defined mission over an extended period. Groups have formal governance, defined membership, and regular meeting cadences. Joining a group means becoming part of a team committed to driving long-term impact within CMT.

What is a Gig?

A Gig is a short-term, tactical assignment with a clear deliverable and timeline. Gigs are ideal for volunteers who want to contribute their expertise to a specific task without a long-term commitment. They are time-boxed and goal-oriented.
